What is Vivistim?
The Vivistim is a device placed under the skin that stimulates the vagus nerve during task-specific therapy to increase neuroplasticity. It helps to reduce upper extremity motor deficits and improve function in chronic ischemic stroke patients with moderate to severe arm impairment.

Who is a candidate for Vivistim?
- Adult surgical candidates, 22 years and older
- Chronic ischemic stroke survivor (typically 6+ months)
- Moderate to severe upper extremity impairment
- must have active motion of wrist and digits, spasticity is ok if controlled enough to complete therapy, severe sensory deficits may hinder patient’s ability to perform rehabilitation tasks
- Willing and able to complete therapy
